ZERO PARADES wiki

Karolina Hayato

Karolina Hayato, cryptonym KINDRED, was the kid on the Whole Sick Crew. Youngest member of the network, the one who looked up to Hershel the most, and the only Crew specialist whose talent was something the game treats as borderline occult: dream visualization.

The last anyone saw her, she was undercover in an experimental dream study. Then ‘91 happened.

What dream visualization actually meant

The Crew’s specialties were each a different way of getting information out of a city that didn’t want to give it up:

Karolina’s lane is the strangest. In the world of Zero Parades, where the Conditioning system lets thoughts physically reshape an operant’s skills, dreams are not strictly metaphor. The wiki’s wording — “talent for dream visualization” — sits in the same bucket as other esoteric Opera-adjacent gear in the game, including whatever the Mysterious Red Disc is.

What Hershel saw last

When CASCADE escaped Portofiro in ‘91 after the Weeping Eye burned the network, Karolina was already inside something called an experimental dream study. Whether that was a cover identity that got her out of the firing line or a place that swallowed her whole isn’t documented in the public sources. The official wiki just says: fate after ‘91 unknown.

For an operant whose specialty was reaching into other people’s heads while they were asleep, that’s a loud silence.

Why she matters in ‘96

Of the Whole Sick Crew, Karolina is the member with the most uncertain status when PSEUDOPOD goes down in Quisach. Tempo was findable (briefly — until the Weeping Eye killed him). Ezsti is alive and angry. The others are scattered. Karolina is a missing person who was last seen walking voluntarily into a dream lab.

If the game gives you a thread on her, it will almost certainly route through one or more of:

  • the dream-study angle and whoever was running it;
  • whatever the red disc is doing to PSEUDOPOD (which has clear dream/altered-state overtones);
  • the other Crew members’ recollections of her last weeks in ‘91.

She’s the Crew member whose case file most overlaps with the central mystery of what happened to PSEUDOPOD.

Build advice if you want to find her

Skills that read into states of consciousness, dream content, or unusual perception are probably the right tools — Sensors for picking up the weird signal, Personalism for getting people to talk about her, Cold Read for noticing who flinches when her name comes up.

If you went heavy Action and skipped most of Relation and Intellect, expect this thread to be harder to pull on. Karolina’s not somebody you knock down a door to find.

The cryptonym

KINDRED is a softer name than the rest of the Crew’s. ESTOC, RADIAN, TAXMAN, VIRTUE all read as functional: a blade, a wave, an enforcer, a moralist. KINDRED reads as a relationship. The youngest member of the Crew, the one who looked up to Hershel, gets the cryptonym that means “family”. That’s not an accident.

What’s confirmed vs. unknown

Confirmed: cryptonym KINDRED, dream-visualization specialty, youngest of the Crew, looked up to Hershel, last seen in an experimental dream study before the ‘91 burn, current whereabouts unknown. Everything else is what you’re playing the game to find out.

As KINDRED

When CASCADE goes off-book in Quisach, the surviving Crew members become the obvious help.

  • Tempo gets killed before Hershel can talk to him.
  • Ezsti is alive and won’t forgive her.
  • Ramses and Vespar are scattered.
  • Karolina is missing.

A KINDRED thread is, at minimum, a missing-persons case. At most, it’s the answer to what happened to PSEUDOPOD — because whatever the disc is, somebody designed it, and dream-study labs are a plausible vector. She’s the Crew member whose case file most overlaps with the central mystery.
