Ansaunne
Heads up: Ansaunne is a country, not a person — Fandom files it under Lore. It lives in this folder for technical reasons. The actual content here is geography and culture.
Ansaunne is a wealthy state in the Developed World. It’s known for two things: bogs and poets. That’s the launch wiki’s whole entry. Everything below is what’s worth reading off those two words.
What “Developed World” means here
Zero Parades’ world sorts countries into four buckets — Superbloc, Developed World, Periphery, and Unknown. Ansaunne is in the Developed World, the same bucket as La Luz, Portofiro, Havagerly, and the Tenantries of Saint Ulwen.
In practice that means: wealthy, capitalist, not in the Superbloc’s orbit, not annexed (yet) in La Luz’s resurgence, not on the Periphery’s losing side of trade.
Ansaunne is on the winning side of the world’s current arrangement.
Bogs and poets
Two things the wiki names Ansaunne for:
- Bogs. A nation-defining landscape detail. Bogs are slow water, peat, preservation, fog. They are not the imagery of a country that prioritizes legibility.
- Poets. A nation-defining cultural detail. A country known internationally for its poets — in a world that names its boats after stars — has a specific position in the global culture. It exports a certain kind of literature.
The two go together. Bog cultures tend to produce contemplative writing. Wet ground, long winters, time to think.
Why a player should care
You’ll mostly meet Ansaunne by reference, not by visit. The game is set in Portofiro, and Ansaunnese characters and texts will appear at the edges:
- As cultural prestige references (the kind of poet a Quisach intellectual would quote).
- As a Developed-World counterweight to the Superbloc / La Luz / EMTERR power-arrangement.
- As one of the four named non-Periphery markets that move goods through Portofiro.
How to read it
Skills that pay off if Ansaunne comes up in dialogue:
- Records — Developed-World geopolitics, Ansaunnese literary tradition, the bog-and-poet axis.
- Poetics — if the poets ever come up by name, this is your read.
- Statehood — Ansaunne is wealthy. Wealth-state diplomacy is a Statehood thing.
Source note: the launch Fandom page commits to “wealthy”, “Developed World”, “bogs”, and “poets”. The cultural reading above is interpretation, not in-game text.
