Party Alley GM
The Party Alley GM is the Guardia Municipal carabinero who picks up undirected calls from the payphone at the western entrance of the Bootleg Bazaar in Quisach. That’s the Fandom page in one sentence. The rest is what it means.
The setup in plain English
There’s a payphone at the west entrance of the Bootleg Bazaar. If you put coins in and dial nothing — or dial in a way the routing can’t resolve — a Guardia Municipal carabinero answers anyway. That carabinero is called the Party Alley GM.
That is not how a normal phone works.
What this means
A few readings are sitting right on the surface:
The payphone is the suspicious payphone
This is almost certainly the same payphone Malen is worried about — the one her father Eno and his friend Gilmar were obsessing over before they disappeared, the one that has a “rash of disappearances” rumored around it. The Bazaar GM (different character — Bazaar, not Party Alley) is dismissive about the disappearances. The Party Alley GM is on the other end of the line.
”GM” is doing double duty
“GM” in Portofiro slang appears to mean Guardia Municipal (city police) — that’s what the Bazaar GM is. So “Party Alley GM” is the cop assigned to Party Alley. But “GM” in game-cultural context also reads as Game Master. Whether that double-meaning is intentional in-game is up to your read.
Undirected calls
The phrasing matters. He answers undirected calls — calls that have no destination. That means the routing is broken on this specific phone, and the breakage routes everything to him. He is not waiting for a call from a friend. He is waiting for the phone to ring.
How to read him
Skills that pay off:
- Statehood — he is a state agent. Statehood is the dominant register.
- Cold Read — a carabinero whose only job appears to be answering a broken payphone is signalling something. Demotion, surveillance post, dead-letter drop?
- Records — Guardia Municipal structure, Portofiran policing, the Bazaar’s relationship to the GM.
- Personalism — get him to talk past the script.
How he connects
- The same suspicious payphone is the one Duchess’s Miracle Line uses, just on a different routing condition. Worth comparing.
- Malen’s missing-father thread runs through this phone.
- The Subcomandante Bagman thread runs through it too, by Malen’s account.
Source note: the link between the Party Alley GM’s payphone and the disappearance payphone is a strong read of cross-page material, not stated on his own page.
